Create Aland Website

Aland is a new e-commerce fashion under Retail. I designed end-to-end from scratch using Shopify and using Figma for specific design that need customization.

What is Aland?

Aland is a multi-brand store with new korean designers that supports about 700 brands under its umbrella , ALAND achieves a great success and is well known among local and international teenage shoppers.

Because we build an design for new product, we need to align of the brand it self:

Who are the target users?
Whats the positioning of the brand?
Style of the brand?

Challanges

Using Shopify, so we have a limited custom design especially in checkout process.
Doesn't have dedicated product manager.

Bechmarking Process

After gaining a deeper understanding of the Aland website, we conducted a benchmarking process focusing on three critical areas:

1. Competitive Analysis

Pros: Identify strengths in competitor websites that we can adopt or adapt to improve our own platform.
Cons: Poviding opportunities for us to differentiate and make our website stand out.

2. Visual Design

Analyze competitors aesthetics and visual appeal.

3. Information Architecture (IA)

Ensure that users visiting Aland’s website can intuitively navigate without needing to "relearn" how to use it.

I created the comparison table to help stakeholders better understand and easily compare each competitor. By making this table, we successfully identified the features we need to develop and their potential impact.

After we knows the feature that we want in our website, I create the Informaton architecture for each page.

After a long discussion we start to look a template in Shopify:

I selected the five best templates that could be suitable for the Aland website.
These templates were chosen to represent our brand effectively, reflecting a casual and streetwear aesthetic.

After discussion within the team, we agree to choose Berlin as our template, because:

The default look is the most suitable for the Aland brand and its 'streetwear' customers. Plus, it seems many interesting features/sections are unique to this theme (like the option to choose unique categories).

However after designing on Shopify, we need to custom a several design to make an website more clean and also to meets business needs, so we priorotize the customization by:

High: Different banner for desktop and mobile, Improve product card for giving the clear context for the users.
Medium: Progress bar free shipping at cart page.
And Low Priority: On several project need to adjust the space, layout and font.

After we design in Shopify and custom design in figma that need to develop by engineer, we successfully launched the website ontime, by launch the website ontime we aim to help business team to achieve their target.

However after designing on Shopify, we need to custom a several design to make an website more clean and also to meets business needs, so we priorotize the customization by:

Aulia developed innovative and effective design solutions for the ALAND website. She integrated modern design trends while maintaining our brand identity. Her solutions were both aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly. These design choices played a key role in the positive reception of the website.

Conclusion

In this project I always make sure that even though we used platform with many limitations (Shopify), the design must be scalable enough and the design element that is important for user journey can still be handled from engineering.
